NEOCLASSICAL VILLA IN ATHERTON ATHERTON CALIFORNIA

Graceful, elegant and inviting – all words that best describe this impressive neoclassical villa in Atherton, California. Completed in 2007, the villa is the culmination of the current owners’ vision to create a masterpiece in the neoclassical Georgian style with inspiration from the Villa Kerylos, a recreation of an ancient Greek villa on the French Riviera. Architectural firm Andrew Skurman Architects worked alongside Plath & Co. General Contractors and Tucker & Marks, Inc. to bring the vision to life. Local and international artisans were assembled to create a world touched by beauty at every turn. Floors handset in Italy in intricately designed mosaics introduce many of the rooms with complete individuality, ceilings and doorways are sculpted with elaborate pediments and friezes, and French doors open from every room onto the gardens. Hand painted on-site by Sergey Konstantinov Art Studio, the dining room mural sets a dramatic scene. Grand-scale formal rooms evoke visions of lively social gatherings that can easily extend into the intimacy of the tremendous library, which doubles as a media and family room  A vast loggia and terrace provide a wonderful space that seamlessly connects the indoors to the glorious grounds. Interior design firm, Tucker & Marks, Inc., describe the project as an exercise in building beautiful forms and volumes, enhancing them with architectural details and moulding, and using custom furnishings, colours, paints, and textiles to make the interiors of this formal house approachable and intimate. There is more than 12,000 square feet of space with six bedrooms, each with en suite bath, plus four half baths, a cabana bath and full guest house with optional versatility for executive offices and fitness needs. Completing this masterpiece is the privacy and formality of the grounds that unfold over 1.5 acres, landscaped by Elizabeth Everdell Garden Design, with a sparkling pool, parterre gardens, and strolling paths that invite quiet contemplation or grand entertaining. It was once on the market as much as $45,000,000 and is last recorded selling in August of 2013 for $30,300,000.
